Heart Wreath

It's been a while since I have made a "craft". I have refinished furniture and painted bedrooms but I really haven't made anything in a long time. I enjoy it but with my life right now there has to be a few parameters. First, it can't be super time consuming. I don't want to start something and have to keep seeing my mess for days on end. I'm also not a very patient person. Second, it needs to be cheap. Quite honestly, if I can buy it for the same price or even a little more, that might be the route I take these days. Last, it can't be complicated and it can't involve sewing. Let's face it, I've always been an airhead and I don't need any more stress in my life than I already have. So.....duh duh da duh....here is my valentine heart craft and I quite like it!

Put this bad boy on my front door

In case you care, I used felt...cheap pink and hot pink felt from Hobby Lobby. I bought 1 yard of each...which was too much but I want to make something else with it. It came to around $8 for the 2 yards.  I was going to do a solid color but I had a kindergarten girl helping me named Brinley. And of course, she wanted to do a "pattern" so we did 10 hot pink squares and then 3 light pink and so on. I cut the squares to about 2 inch by 2 inch. I was sloppy and in a hurry so really the sizes weren't all the same and I was fine with it because I wanted it to have a messy look when it was put together. I used my small hole punch and punched a hole in the middle. Then we strung them on an old wire hanger I bent into a heart. Easy Easy and my little helpers could join in the fun.

I had a link on how to make flowers out of felt but then I found these flowers already ready to go at Hobby Lobby. They were 1.99 for four so that seemed like a better way to go.

 I got this idea from a girl on pinterest who made a heart wreath that was very similar. She actually used a red wool coat she bought at the D.I and cut it up.....clever!

Christmas 2013

Christmas was great this year. We spent most of the holiday just hanging around the house, watching movies, playing mario, playing board games and playing with toys. Mckenna got sick a few days before Christmas and I got sick on Christmas with a stomach bug. Hunter got it a week later. In some ways I was glad we couldn't go anywhere. I was content to rest and spend time together. I was also READY for the kids to go back to school because we were all getting on each others nerves by the end of Christmas vacation.

Our Christmas celebration with the Remund family was a few days before Christmas while Brett and Natalie were here from California. It's amazing how much fun the cousins have together.

Dalton is totally cracking me up. You had to shake the mater car to make it go and he would squint his eyes shut really tight while he would shake it. LOL

An afternoon of fun with a sled!

Powell had no idea how much a fun a new sled from Kings could be. We haven't had a new sled for a really long time and our old ones were broken or cracked. This was literally the last sled in Heber (gotta love small towns) but it was all the kids needed. It's nice to have an older brother who hiked up the hill with his sisters again and again so Powell could take pictures. I was home with the flu.

Thanksgiving

Because we had company here for the funeral, they decided to stay for Thanksgiving. This was a special treat for Powell since his family rarely gets together. We had Kurt and Susie with their three boys staying with us: Jacob, Nick and Ben. We also had Michael and Jill staying with us and Tess stayed a few nights. It was about eight or nine nights that we had company.  We didn't take very many pictures, which I feel bad about, but we were so exhausted with all of our company and and the funeral I didn't really think of it.

Powell's Dad Passed

Powell's dad died of Stage Four Metastatic Prostate Cancer. He fought hard but we are glad he didn't suffer too much in the end. I'm glad Powell was able to go and spend time with him one day a week to help and to visit. The whole time we have been married Powell has enjoyed talking to his dad a few times a week on the phone. They would talk about airplanes, science, weather, etc.....all that stuff I'm bored to talk about. Powell already misses those talks but we know he has out of pain and in a better place.

Obituary for Thomas Dudley Harrison

Our beloved Tom “The Science Guy” Harrison passed away on November 20, 2013 after a valiant fight to survive cancer. Tom, the son of Elizabeth Powell Underhill and Arthur Dudley Harrison, grew up in Garden City, New York.

While in high school, the state held an annual State Science Competition – the grand prize being a full four year scholarship to any college of the winner’s choice. Tom won first prize in the three years that he entered the competition. Tom chose to go to MIT with his scholarship. He completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1957. He went on to teach at MIT for two more years while earning his Master’s Degree. He then went on to work for TRW on the space craft program. In 1980 he started Colorado’s first private long distance telephone company. Tom later developed a passion for the gas and oil business. He participated in the drilling of over one hundred gas and oil wells. In more recent years Tom secured five U.S. Patents on the technology covering regeneration power for air conditioning in automobiles. He had a true entrepreneur’s spirit, always thinking and creating new inventions.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He loved the gospel. He had many positions in the church, but his favorite position was teaching the primary children.

On July 20, 1969 Tom married the love of his life, Carolyn Joan Lawrence, and was sealed to her in the Los Angeles Temple in 1972. Tom’s greatest accomplishment was the family that he shared with Carolyn. Together they share six children, sixteen grandchildren and three great granddaughters. His kindness, generosity and knowledge made him a “go to” man that many would seek out for guidance. Tom is leaving a remarkable legacy and will be dearly remembered.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; children, James Harrison, Ashleigh (Ryan) Spencer, T. Powell (Jessica) Harrison, Michael (Jill) Harrison, Janice (John) Galbraith and Kurt (Susie) Harrison; 16 grandchildren; 3 great granddaughters.

Funeral Services for Tom will be held Saturday, November 23rd, at 2:00 pm, at the Suncrest 1st Ward Chapel, 14977 South Round Tree Lane, Draper, UT where a Viewing will be held prior from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm. Interment in Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East 10600 South, Sandy, UT.
