One of the 6 chickens we bought in April started having some problems with it's beak as it grew. It had a cross beak, which means the bottom beak was growing out to the side and the top beak grew straight or normal. The beak became crossed and it was unable to eat properly. Eventually the chicken will die because no matter how much it sits in the feeder to eat....it just can't get enough. We tried to trim the beak in hopes that it would help but the cross was too severe. We prepared Brinley that it probably wouldn't make it and she was extra nice to it, checking on it every day. This was the day that "Broken Beak" passed away. It was June 7, 2012. Brinley and Powell buried it out by the coop. It was hardly taking any breathes so we hurried and had Brin pose for some pictures. Later in the afternoon it died. Hunter cried the most but Brinley said it was fine because it would go to heaven and she would see it later.

Poor little chickie - not looking so good. Brinley is quite the little farmer girl. Hunter is the "tender heart".
Oh my gosh! That is so sad. Poor Broken Beaky- That last picture is disturbing.
I can't believe how bad the beak looked at the end....I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did. Brinley is such a cute chicken mom, and poor Hunter...LOVE HIM!
